All Coaches,
I am passing along some of Tony C.'s ideas for the ODP sessions this weekend and passing them on for your use:
Good ideas for counterattacking work - I like the first two stages - I get a little lost on the third - probably just me. I like to counterattack directly to goal whenever possible. Going outside is an option if the center is not open to attack. Some good ideas - put them into your sessions
Jim
I would like for the training sessions for this Sunday to focus on small group and team activities.
The main area that I would like for you to address is -
The Goalkeepers should be included in all the team training activites.
BELOW ARE TWO IDEAS THAT I DESIGNED FOR THIS PARTICULAR THEME BUT FEEL FREE TO USE YOUR OWN EXERCISES.
White team can only defend in their half of the field. Objective: Try to regain possession and quickly play forward pass to the target player who must find another white player who quickly supports.( counter attack) Red team plays high pressure / white team low pressure - switch roles.
Stage 2 add small goals. White team tries to win possession of the ball playing low pressure. Objective: Regain possession and counter attack using the target player, plus score in the small goal from a pass from the target player. Red team plays high pressure-Target players .(Target players can move freely along the goal line and behind the goal)
It is important to coach the target player to read the moment when the defending team is about to win the ball to be ready to receive a pass.
Possession game with interchanging positions.
Game can be played 3 v 3 plus 4 players as support players on the outside of grid area. ( 7 v 7) area 40 x 30
Stage 1 simple possession retain possession 7 V 3
limit touches, 3 passes in the middle zone before you can play to the outside players.
outside players 1 touch or 2 touch.
Stage 2 - passing player changes with player on the outside when pass is made.
encourage control, pass, move. sequences.
1st touch away from pressure.
Stage 3 passing player plays the ball but nearest player exchanges positions(3rd man running).communication is vital.
* Players on the outside can not tackle each other.
